Tea seed oil (Camellia seed oil) in soapmaking
« on: January 21, 2012, 08:04:25 AM »
Has anyone used tea seed oil (camellia seed) in cold process soap?  I've found the chemical makeup as well as a lye calculator that features it (thank you, Majestic Mountain Sage!) but can't find anything about what properties it brings to soap and at what percentage it should be added.  Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Joanie

According to Wikipedia, it is one of the oils that produces a high lather in soaps and Merriam Webster's site says it is similar to olive oil.

Thanks for asking the question.  I had been wondering too but hadn't looked it up yet.

I use Camellia seed oil in all my bars and it I use it personally for my dryscalp. Apparently Geisha girls used to brush it in their hair too.
I live in Australia and order from this site.

Even if you don't need to order from them, their information on many products is really helpful.
