Following is a calendar of events tailored to soapmakers. These events have been submitted by various groups and businesses; they are not sponsored or endorsed by the HSMG (except, of course, our Annual Conference!

July 20 (Sunday)

Soap Makers' Luncheon

Third Sunday at 2:00pm. Luncheon for anyone interested in handmade soap; no fee; just pay for your own meal. This summer luncheon will be a finale to the Handcrafted Soap Maker's Guild annual conference. Attendees will share photos and literature from the conference. Further luncheon topics will focus on making soap for the winter holidays: How to increase the volume of soap batches, choose holiday soap scents, design soap packaging, and etc.

the ORIGINAL SOAP MAKING BOOTCAMP

This popular weekend workshop taught by Lori Nova & David Critchfield covers 4 classes on making natural soap from scratch: Cold Process Basics & More (101), Swirls & Layers (201), Crockpot Hot Process & Big Batch / Production Soap Making. Take home thorough handouts with detailed instructions, recipes for everything we make, a certificate of completion & 4 bars of award-winning soap. This class is mainly demo-style (the best/safest way so you’ll feel confident doing it at home). Ideal for out-of-towners flying in who want to learn all they can about making fantastic soap in 2 days. 10am-6pm both days (16 total hours). Class fee is $275 (plus $30 materials fee). The Original 4-Day BATH & BODY BOOTCAMP

This special intensive workshop provides the opportunity to be immersed in the wonderful world of making natural bath & body products. We'll cover: lotions & creams (from scratch), fizzing bath bombs, herbal tub tea & wash bags, 3 types of body butters (traditional, solid massage bars & exfoliating butter scrubs), 3 types of essential oil perfumes (alcohol-based, oil-based roll-ons & solids), botanical bath salts, traditional oil-based salt/sugar body scrubs, 3 types of spa facial products (cleansing grains, facial steaming herbs & clay/herb masks), and melt & pour soap. This meeting will focus on safe soap making shortcuts and methods to safely speed saponification, with emphasis on how to decrease saponification and cure times for cold process and hot process soaps so that soaps can safely be sold one (1) week after being made.
