The Handcrafted SoapMaker - Article Submissions

We are always looking for interesting and pertinent articles to be included in The Handcrafted SoapMaker. Individuals are encouraged to submit articles to be considered for inclusion in an upcoming issue of the Journal.

Content

To be published in The Handcrafted SoapMaker content must be pertinent in some fashion to the handcrafted soap making industry and interesting. In the broadest sense, that could include historical information, technical reviews or articles, research papers, how-to articles, discussion of supplies, materials, processes or procedures, legal or societal issues, trends, marketing, business skills, taxes, finances ... in short any topic that could be of help or interest to someone who makes and sells soaps and/or sells products or services to soapmakers. The HSMG members range from novice to experienced, so articles can run the gamut of skill level and expertise.

Of particular interest are step-by-step how-to articles that are easy to follow and include descriptive pictures.

Self-promoting articles are not accepted. A person who sells molds might do an article on how to make a particular style of molded soap, and could use his/her own molds, but the article must be sufficiently complete so the reader can accomplish the project without being required to purchase items from the author.

Length

The Journal includes both long (2,000 - 2,500 words) and short (300 - 500 words) articles. The length of the article should be fitting to the content.

Copyright

Unless otherwise arranged, submitted articles become copyright by the Handcrafted Soap Makers Guild, Inc.

Submission

Submitted articles should be sent in electronic format to Journal@soapguild.org. No special styling is necessary as that will be done when the article is laid out in the issue. Pictures to accompany the article should be sent with it and should be in a high-resolution format suitable for print work. Also include a short bio of the author.
