The HSCG Mission Statement

Founded in 1998 by an enterprising group of makers who saw the need to support a growing handcrafted industry, the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild was formed and operates as a not for profit, membership organization.

The HSCG mission statement reflects our dual commitment to helping individual makers and businesses grow, while supporting the broader handcrafted industry through four key functions: promotion, communication, education and representation of handcrafted soap, cosmetic and candle makers.

Promotion

To promote and educate the public about the handcrafted soap, cosmetic and candle industry.

Away from marketing hype and advertising slogans, consumers can discover factual information about handcrafted soap, cosmetics and candles. Our Maker Marketplace showcases a range of beautiful, artisanal products, connecting visitors with makers who offer them for purchase.

Communication

To act as a center of communication among, and to circulate information beneficial to, members of the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry.

The HSCG works to provide important information to everyone in the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry through the HSCG website, Local Chapters, and on social media, especially our Facebook page. As a non-member, you can Register to receive some communications from the organization.

Education

To foster the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry through education and training.

Education and training for all members of the handcrafted soap and cosmetic industry is of major importance to the HSCG. Soap and cosmetic making classes are listed on the HSCG website. The Annual Conference is open to both members and non-members and provides four days of classes and sessions at all levels on many subjects of interest. The Resource Center offers year-round access to articles and videos on a variety of topics and is adding new subject matter regularly.
