Olive oil soap is a gentle, moisturizing and luxurious soap excellent for all skin types, including sensitive skin as it cleanses thoroughly without over-drying. Sometimes called “castile,” olive oil soap is a traditional soap often found in the open markets of the Mediterranean.

Olive oil is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants that absorb easily. It aides in supporting the skin’s hydration and suppleness. Soap made from olive oil cleanses thoroughly while enhancing elasticity, which means that you step out of every shower or bath feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

Like its Mediterranean ancestor, Mieka Olive Oil Soaps are actually made of olive oil (unlike some “olive oil” soaps that are made from other oils, then enhanced with olive oil).  Mieka Olive Oil Soaps are 95% olive oil with the remaining 5% being coconut oil.  Each bar is handcrafted ​without added perfumes, dyes, preservatives, or harsh chemicals.

We could claim our products are all organic, yet doing so would be dishonest.  We source as much as we can from organic, eco-friendly and free-trade sources. However, it’s not always possible. So rather than making empty promises, we focus on finding the healthiest options from the trustworthy sources.

Our Beginning

It was 2004, and we lived in Bella Coola, British Columbia. A soap maker there encouraged me to try making my own plant-based soap. No tallow or lard. Just oils sourced from plants.

My first batch of vegan soap refused to solidify. So seeking answers, to the internet I went. I discovered two life-changing resources—TheSage.com and Zensoaps.com. I learned how to make lotions and develop soap recipes at Majestic Mountain Sage, and how to make hot process soap from Zensoaps.com.

I sold soap and lotion bars in Bella Coola until we returned to the U.S. in 2007. My career went in another direction for a few years. However, I continued making small batches of soap and lotion at the request of friends.

Then 2020 arrived. A webinar sparked the idea of launching my arnica lotion on Amazon. Then I found a reasonably priced THC-free CBD source—Essential Depot.

Now, I have five lotions, two creams and a body polish for sale. I also make unique plant-based bar soaps.

Started pouring soap in empty sneaker boxes lined with plastic back in 1999 in the High Desert of New Mexico. Now pouring 1000 lbs per session. Big six ounce bars with unique colors and 14 flavors that proved themselves over the 3 dozen or more that I labeled up as part of the lineup over the last 25 years. I love every aspect of a soap career and plan to continue until I 80 years old.....maybe longer.

Recipe development starts at $600 and includes sample batches to test. Minimums are 144 soaps per scent. The recipe development charge is a one-time fee. 

Cost per bar depends on the ingredients you use. If you use all organic oils, specialty oils, expensive essential oils, etc. the cost will be higher. In general, these prices will reflect comparable wholesale pricing.

After learning about the basics of soap making, I sought out live conferences and opportunities to learn more. My goal is to become a master soap maker. Sacred Sunrise Soaps was divinely inspired. After working for many other small businesses and large corporations for over 30 years, the time was finally right to pursue a passion that sat dormant in my heart for several years. I had reached my limit and could no longer bare the thought of another day in the corporate world. Around this time, I witnessed the most beautiful sunrises as I made my way to a job that was consuming more and more of my life. It felt like heaven was beckoning me to take a leap. And so I did and here I am. I got interested in all-natural soaps because I wanted to protect my body from unnecessary chemicals. I have been making soap since 2010 and loving every minute. I started with the help of a goat farmer who wanted goat milk soap. I've been self taught, reading tons of books, watching videos. I also taught several classes through a local museum to help educate and encourage soap making. My soaps are made with pure oils and butters, I use soaping grade essential oils and color with micas. I make my soap at home, on the St. Lawrence River. I enjoy my small studio with which customers can stop by and purchase my soaps.
