Her in-person, plant-based, Make Your Own Beauty soap, skincare, candle and haircare formulation workshops and corporate wellness events in New York City have been attended by thousands of students from around the world.

Marla is a Reiki Master and an alchemist. Her special interests include weaving spirit, body and soul wellness with beauty.

For a decade in Boston, Marla was as a market research analyst at Forrester Research where she advised Fortune 500 tech companies with market opportunities.  Craving a more meaningful life, Marla left the corporate world in 1998 and launched her own plant-based soap and skincare company on the South Shore of Boston where she landed accounts including Whole Foods, attended wholesale trade shows throughout the U.S. to sell her products and hired sales reps in every territory to assist in expanding her company.

Marla designed and ran two brick-and-mortar stores – one in Plymouth, Massachusetts and another in Jackson Hole, Wyoming – where she made her own line of beauty products for shoppers to see the process. In Massachusetts, she incorporated the ocean into her products – seaweed, sea salt, and sand. In Wyoming, she wildcrafted local botanicals such as sagebrush, juniper and blue spruce, infused Snake River water and high elevation crystalline snow into her cold process soaps.

Immediately following her 1998 exit from Forrester, Marla shifted her market research skills and forecasting to the handcrafted beauty industry. For more than 20 years she continues to predict retail, consumer and emerging opportunity shifts in the handmade beauty industry.

Marla speaks at numerous industry trade shows and conferences. She is a published author and the formulary columnist for Making Soap Magazine. This summer Marla was selected by NY NOW wholesale trade show to judge the Emerging Brands category in New York City. Clyde Yoshida

2022 Conference Speaker, Clyde Yoshida
Clyde Yoshida

Long before Clyde made is first bar of soap, he had pursuits in writing, performing music as well as painting and sculpting. Teaching at San Diego’s School of Creative and Performing Arts at the beginning of his teaching career was the perfect environment to experiment with teaching math in creative ways. Students learned math concepts through hands on activities. With time, the stigmas that students felt about math began to fade.

Success in teaching by using a mix of learning styles led to coaching other teachers in the district and participating in national efforts with the New Standard Project, Project PACE and writing for the George Lucas Educational Foundation publication, Edutopia. With encouragement from a district administrator, Clyde enrolled into The Harvard University Graduate School of Education. It was there, alongside theories and practices, that the revelation of continued learning with a mix of learning styles in adults occurred.

Clyde is the owner and soap maker at Vibrant Soap and releases soap making videos on YouTube on the Vibrant Soap channel. At past HSCG conferences, Clyde has presented topics about color use, creativity and crafting soaps that sell.
