Learn Soap Making 101, 102 and 103 from 4th generation soap maker Jessica Cudnik and co-owner Kevin Samples!

Soap Making 101:

Soap 101 is a beginning-level soapmaking class designed to teach students to make soap by hand at home. The main focus of this class is the "cold process" soapmaking method. Although it may seem complicated when you are first starting out, making your own soap from scratch (the way some of our grandparents did) using all-natural ingredients can be both fun and rewarding ~ not to mention extremely addicting! We will cover what soap is, soap process, choosing fats and lye safety. Each student makes 1 lb of soap from scratch they get to take with them. If you've ever measured, mixed, and baked anything then you can make soap.

Please remember to wear close toed shoes, long sleeve shirt, pants and a smile!Fees cover instruction, safety equipment (apron, gloves and glasses) and all soaping-making ingredients. It does not include a mold.

Take Away: ~1 hour soap history, ingredient and instruction details & 1.5 hours everyone makes 1 lb of soap they take with them (this is 4+bars of soap); handout with info and recipes

Soap Making 102:
Herbs and Clays to color Natural Soap!

The color palette in nature provides perfect hues for your natural soaps! This class focuses on using herbs and clays to design naturally colorful soap. Learn how to add herbs and clays as well as a few swirl and layering design techniques to add interest and botanical benefits to your handmade soap creations!   *Soap 101 is not a prerequisite but it is helpful to already know the basics of soap making as we will not delve into the specifics in 102.* All levels welcome! You will walk away with about 2-3 lbs of soap.

Fees cover instruction, safety equipment (apron, gloves and glasses) and all soaping-making ingredients. It DOES NOT include a mold. You may buy multiple one pound silicone square soap mold from us for $10 each or bring your own or up-cycle an appropriate vessels like milk cartons or similar. Read about it here: Recycle your Recyclables – Soap Molds. Keep in mind that you will need enough molds for 3-5 lbs of soap or 2-3 batches.

You will walk away with your own colorful soap creation.
Please remember to wear close toed shoes, long sleeve shirt, pants and a smile!

Soap 103:

The Power of Scent - Aromatherapy, Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils

Most of us have experienced the powerful ability of familiar scents to trigger emotions and memories of times past, such as people in our lives, places we miss, or particular events, such as the holidays. Scent can be achieved through ingredients, essential oils, fragrance oils and other additives.

These all can be added to your handcrafted soaps and also in a way that has aromatherapy benefits. Today, the term aromatherapy refers to the intentional use of plant-derived oils to enhance physical and emotional health. Popular plants like lavender have been used for promoting relaxation and used in stress therapy. In this class we'll cover a basic overview of popular essential oils, benefits and combinations. Also how to safely incorporate them into your soap recipes.
