The Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild recognizes products that are made at least 50% by hand as handcrafted.
Handcrafted cosmetic makers create unique recipes using mainly food-grade ingredients that are chosen for their skin-friendly benefits. Typical ingredients may include favorites like avocado oil, coconut oil and shea butter.
Makers also create beautifully scented products using both fragrance and essential oils that are skin-safe. Some makers choose to add skin-safe colorants and/or glitter - others create unscented, naturally colored products for those with sensitive skin.
One of the biggest benefits of handcrafted cosmetics is of course, the makers! Handcrafted cosmetics are high quality products created by skilled makers with their own hands, not an automated machine. Plus, buying handcrafted, locally-made products means a stronger community and more opportunities for small business owners!
