My soaps are all outdoor inspired. A tribute to my late husband James Brown (JB), co-founder of Cowboy Soap Company. Soap is a blend of liquid artistry and evocative scents, each crafted to awaken memories and emotions. Many of them carry stories of their own, created in tribute to JB’s legacy and the magic he brought through his storytelling.

Each batch of our artisan soap is handcrafted in Springdale, Arkansas with pure, skin-loving ingredients. We focus on making everything as natural as possible. All soaps are cured 4-6 weeks and personally tested prior to being sold.

Jennifer Hofmann is the owner of Jennifer’s Handmade Soap based in Ayer, MA. The endless design possibilities captured her love for soapmaking. “Soap should be more than just functional” sums up her stance on soap! Color and design guide everything she does.

Jennifer has been making soap since 2009 where she fell into it by accident. Once she made her first batch of soap she found she couldn’t stop. She was fascinated by the science of soap making, but it was the design possibilities that captured her love for soap making. In 2012 Jennifer officially started Jennifer’s Handmade Soap. Jennifer continues to study her craft and experiment with new designs. She’s learned a lot, but there’s so much more still to learn and she knows she’ll be a soap student for life.

Jennifer’s goal is to always make a great bar of soap (or bath product) that is also visually fun. Her business tag line is: “Because soap should be more than just functional.”Color and design guide everything she does—from products to label design it has to have color and it has to make people smile.

Her soaps are visually appealing, but also natural, gentle, and moisturizing. She makes a range of bath products from balms, scrubs, butters, and facial items to help all skin types, to soothe, and to moisturize. Jennifer has dedicated herself to learning her craft and has passed the Soap Guilds master test (a two year test encompassing all aspects of soap making) to receive her Masters CP/HP Soap Making certification. She is also a HSCG certified teacher.

We are an independent boutique shop and manufacturer in Goshen, Indiana, specializing in handcrafted soap and body care products made in our workshop. We strive to be a cozy, welcoming place and our soap lines reflect that.

Unlike other similar stores and businesses, we choose not to market our soaps as “beauty” products. We believe that everyone is beautiful and refuse to profit from letting our customers think otherwise.

We make our products with premium ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil. We never use palm oil or oils that can contain GMOs like soy, canola, or corn oil.

We make and carry three house brands: Soapy Gnome, Dandewilde Affirmation, and Kettle Lake Forest.

We sell direct to consumer at our website. SoapyGnome.com.

You provide the liquid from your business and we create a soap based on the flavor profile. We've had great success creating brewed soaps for various businesses. We've made soaps for breweries, wineries, and tea companies. It's a fun, consumable item to sell as part of your merch. Soapy Gnome would love to partner with you to make custom beer soaps, custom wine soaps, custom cider soap or custom tea soap.

Set your brand apart from the rest with a fully customized soap recipe!

If you would like to develop a soap line as part of your brand, we recommend this option so that you will own your soap recipe as our recipes are proprietary. Recipe development starts at $600 and includes sample batches to test. Minimums are 144 soaps per scent. The recipe development charge is a one-time fee. 

Cost per bar depends on the ingredients you use. If you use all organic oils, specialty oils, expensive essential oils, etc. the cost will be higher. In general, these prices will reflect comparable wholesale pricing.

Developing specialty products in collaboration with brands is our favorite thing to do. It's a lot of fun! We love bringing our expertise and combining it with your expertise to create something better than either of us could have done alone!

Nestled in Southwestern Colorado, scenic Telluride should be on everyone’s “bucket list.” This idyllic mountain community became our inspiration for abandoning the high stress of corporate life and branch out to focus on taking care of ourselves and helping others do the same. Not surprisingly, Telluride offered many opportunities to learn more about natural ingredients with input from like-minded artisans and handcrafters. 

Previous work with a mid-size skin care company led us to discover how difficult it is to adequately eliminate harsh chemical preservatives and synthetics from sourced ingredients and base products. Locating labs willing to formulate without these additives was difficult. It became clear that working in-house on a smaller scale was essential to bringing authentic, truly natural products to market. 

Hence, Smart By Nature was born. Starting with small batch soaps and evolving into a full line of bath and body products, our company is inspired by nature and passionate about sustainability and reducing environmental impacts.
