What started as a simple experiment with goat milk soaps in my kitchen soon transformed into something life-changing. Not only did it help my daughter, but it began to help others in our community, too.

Nestled in Southwestern Colorado, scenic Telluride should be on everyone’s “bucket list.” This idyllic mountain community became our inspiration for abandoning the high stress of corporate life and branch out to focus on taking care of ourselves and helping others do the same. Not surprisingly, Telluride offered many opportunities to learn more about natural ingredients with input from like-minded artisans and handcrafters. 

Previous work with a mid-size skin care company led us to discover how difficult it is to adequately eliminate harsh chemical preservatives and synthetics from sourced ingredients and base products. Locating labs willing to formulate without these additives was difficult. It became clear that working in-house on a smaller scale was essential to bringing authentic, truly natural products to market. 

Hence, Smart By Nature was born. Starting with small batch soaps and evolving into a full line of bath and body products, our company is inspired by nature and passionate about sustainability and reducing environmental impacts.

Dirty Unicorn was founded in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic when Baz, the Dirtiest of Unicorns, found his travel agency suddenly… not going anywhere… 

In a desire to express himself in a new manner (and suddenly WAY too much time on his hands) he began soaping. In a short time he found that not only was the process both soothing and satisfying but his concoctions and experimentations brought joy to people around him. 

A short while later, after a chance meeting he joined MADE Mercantile in beautiful downtown Woodstock, GA where his products quickly became a community staple. After gaining momentum he was soon joined by his Husbicorn, Stoney and the two of them have been making all the things that make life wonderful since. 

Most recently, Baz has had the honor of being dubbed "one of the nation's finest Makers" by becoming a featured competitor on Meet Your Makers Showdown hosted by Crissy Metz, LeAnne Rimes, and Mark Mantano streaming only on discovery+.

Unfortunately, Baz is also a bit risqué and entirely too fond of puns and thus our unique lifestyle brand was given shape.

I started experimenting with making hand made soaps to help my husband with his dry, itchy skin. I was determined to find a better solution than the store brands. As I began to read about the ingredients found in commercially prepared soaps I was shocked by what I learned. Soaps that may be labeled as "natural" are actually detergents that include chemical hardeners and foaming agents. The truth is that soap we buy now is closer to detergent than traditional soap. My soaps are made from the highest quality ingredients. My mission is to give customers an option for a better and healthier product that is natural, simple and honest.

I do not use any alcohols, synthetic colorants, synthetic fragrances in any of my soaps. All my soaps are handmade from scratch using the cold and or the hot process soap making methods.
The nourishing, moisturizing properties of the ingredients blend in my natural soaps have been specially formulated for the most delicate skin. There are no synthetic essential oils or butters and oils in my soaps; just pure, natural certified organic ingredients that gently cleanse and nourish the skin.

I use exclusively Plant based oils and butters and therapeutic grade essential oils in my soaps. The ingredients are the highest quality available.

Double Bar J Cashmere Farm has been in business for over 25 years. We started out with just a couple Cashmere goats and focused on making goats milk soaps. Our herd has grown to over 40 Cashmere goats. We sell our soaps at craft shows and wholesale them to businesses around Nevada. Our soaps are hand cut and individually wrapped. Frenchies’ was co-founded by Lou Demers and Matt Dubois. The name of our company is derived from Lou and Matt’s surnames of French-Canadian descent. The approximate English translation of Demers is “Of the Sea,” and for Dubois: “Of the Woods.” Perhaps our heritage is what fuels our love for essential oils, many of which are native and plentiful in New England like balsam fir, pine and cedar - the primary ingredients in our natural insect repellent - Frenchies’ Maine Woods Bug Dope as well as our foaming hand soaps, bar soaps, and room sprays/mists.
